Hanna and her parents live in Italy. Because of her cleft palate, Hanna has been fed through a nasogastric tube since birth. All previous tube weaning attempts made by Hanna’s therapists had been unsuccessful, so Hanna’s family decided to participate in the Eating School in Graz. Hanna was 15 months old at the beginning of the Eating School. Right from the start, she made great progress, accepting various pureed foods and drinking formula so that she was already able to be partially weaned while still in Graz. Back at home, Hanna was fully weaned during the aftercare portion of the program. Hanna hasn’t needed her tube since the end of March, 2018 – her favorite is drinking formula.
From the parents
Translated from German
Our daughter, Hanna, could not drink because of her cleft palate and her low weight. As a result, immediately after her birth, a nasogastric tube was placed. The experiences relating to the tube were not easy for any of us. Hanna vomited her meals for over a year and a half. Then, we discovered the Eating School in Graz. There, for the first time, Hanna became familiar with the feeling of being hungry. This feeling was exactly what she needed to become interested in food. The welcome of the NoTube team was outstanding, despite all of the worries we brought with us. We quickly learned that our daughter could eat, and that gave us the courage and strength to support Hanna on the long journey of learning to eat. The doctors and therapists accompanied us competently, with their heart and soul, over the course of 8 months. I wholeheartedly endorse this center to anyone who has had the difficult experience of having a child who could not eat on their own and recommend that you get in touch with NoTube as quickly as possible.
