Melissa and her family live in Canada. In March 2010 they participated in the Netcoaching program. Melissa was born with a palsy of the N. phrenicus sinistral. Because of the severeness of her disease, a NG-tube was placed, which led to better growth, but unfortunately also to a tube dependency. As a result of this condition she vomited, gagged and sweat a lot. Furthermore the whole family system suffered, thus, the family contacted Notube’s experts, who defined Meliassa as suitable for the Netcoaching program, which was started on March 10th, 2010. Two weeks later, Melissa had learned to eat and her feeding tube could be removed. Since then, Melissa and her family are tube free and they enjoy their life again.
From the parents
I am happy to tell you that our daughter is doing very well and is extremely healthy! She is a joy and a precious gift to my husband and I, and we appreciate the help that your team gave us more than I can express in words.
Right after she was weaned, Melissa had some problems with constipation. The weaning process went very smoothly, but she didn’t gain weight very well for months after the weaning and her position on the growth chart dropped alarmingly from around 75% to below 10% in four months. The respirologist at Vancouver Children’s Hospital was very concerned and had her tested for celiac disease and other things, but nothing obvious came up. In the mean time, I took Melissa to my naturopathic doctor, and he found that she had an allergy to cow’s milk and a candida albicans overgrowth in her intestines. He treated her for the Candida and I removed all cow’s milk from her diet, and within 2 months her bowels became much more regular and, as a result, she became more mobile (this was when she started crawling–around 14 months). Her weight also started climbing, and her appetite increased. She also became a much happier child!
Melissa is now a happy and healthy toddler with a good appetite. She started talking at an early age. Her vocabulary exploded at around a year, to the point that I couldn’t keep track of all the words she could say! Now, at 22 months, she speaks in full sentences and can express her thoughts and feelings at a level that seems beyond her years. I feel that with your help, her oral skills were not affected by the NG tube at all, and I know that many children have speech problems after having tubes in for a long time. I feel that our health care system is behind in its lack of knowledge or ability to wean children from tubes, and I wish there was something I could do about it. I have been so inspired by this journey to health with my daughter that I am considering studying to become a naturopathic physician myself!
I thank your team from the bottom of my heart for the help and caring advice that you provided to us, and at exactly the right time. Melissa is one of your success stories to be sure. We are now expecting another child, and we could not be happier as a family.
